When someone is given a gift, he is grateful and desires to give something in return. That’s where we got the idea of giving those who participated in the canonization –October, 6th 2002- the possibility of giving a small gift to those who needed it, specifically the inhabitants of Sub-Sahara Africa.

The initiative was received with so much enthusiasm that even though it was associated to an event, it become long-lasting endeavor: Harambee Africa International.

Since 2002, Harambee has implemented 39 educational and development programs in 17 Sub-Saharan Africa countries.

After 10 years of action, and in Saint Josemaría’s memory, the moment is thus opportune to think back to the origins and look forward to the future and to do so through the contributions of those who have supported Harambee, both in the beginning and in more recent years, through their work, encouragement, writings and words, accompanying the many volunteers that inspire Harambee committees in Italy, France, Spain, Portugal and the United States.
